Should BBB Accreditation play a role in BuildZoom ranking?

I have never been supportive of the BBB after seeing a 20/20 report years back.

The BBB keeps a record of complaints and provides a Rating of all businesses, member or not. So why does your business need to be accreditated? The only reason that you pay the BBB is for them to take your back when a dispute comes up.

Here is the listing for my business, even though I have never paid the dues to be accreditated.

KC Plumber Pro Better Business Bureau listing is an A-, even though they know nothing about our company. I'm sure if we were a member we would have an A+ rating.

Is the BBB a good idea or is it better to steer clear?

That would be up to Build Zoom first, Personally do not see the need for a business, but it is an option for a client needing more info.

NO. BBB has been misleading the public for years. They are not an independent rating firm. They SOLICIT MEMBERSHIPS AND DUES from businesses, in exchange for promoting businesses that are members.

Businesses PAY MONEY to belong to the BBB. The BBB insinuates that because a business does not belong to the BBB they are evil.

Absolutely not! Although I was a member of the BBB of Dallas for several years, and I really have no beef with them, I still have a listing and an A+ rating , but have little faisth in their business model. I have never had a complaint filed, but they stay after me to rejoin and become an accredited member by simply paying a fee. I know of several businesses that maintain an accreditation with hundreds of complaints that were closed but not to the satisfaction of the customers. It seems to be about money. I geive more weight to companies like Angies’s List that does not take money from the businesses they rate.

Yes most defenetly BBB is part of the ranking in buildzoom.com

I believe it helps, I,m a member and always have my customers to give a review. Believe it or not a lot of people check business’s out on the BBB. Being a member does have it,s advantages. I get free business cards, yard signs and a lot of other free material. The reviews help as well. As long as you do good work and take care of your customers nothing but good can come out of it.

We’ve been working with the BBB for over 2 years now and we really believe that they provide a lot of value for consumers, which is why we have decided to factor their ratings into our overall scoring system.

They put a great deal of effort into researching claims and trying to come up with an accurate assessment of each business.

Our research has also demonstrated that a lot of consumers trust the BBB evaluation over other options (e.g. Angie’s List).

That all being said, the BBB rating is just one of numerous variables we examine - for example, a contractor with a suspended license (that we were able to verify with the board) would never have a high BuildZoom ranking regardless of any other variables.

Yes if yelp can rate you so should the BBB

When you have to pay through a “so called” rating firm to be recognized as a truthful, honest, loyal, successful, ect. business owner. To me is not fully worth the mone, the BBB is not 100% in depth unless you pay for a badge you can advertise. i think its rediculous you have to pay for something like that.

I think that the BBB has been a staple for many people before all the Social Media Sites and Service Sites since the Internet age. As we all know, not everyone is a Internet Shopper, some still like the old method of actually being able to call someone to get a report on a Business. Our Company will always use every resource to get a good rating no matter how our Clients choose to research us.

i joined earlier this year because most people do go to the BBB website to see your company’s info.

i believe it definately helps somewhat.

i suppose it is just the way things have gone.

then again i know plenty of contractors who are very busy and have never been a member of the BBB.

I think its helpful for a customer to review it, but as a independent company and membership is required, I don’t think gives credibility to your company… Reputation and credibility is build when your customer itself gives you a A+ or a review to the work that you have done in their house.

The bottom line is BBB builds confidence in the consumer who might be on the fence about hiring a company. It also shows that a company can get through a project without isses…which is not always an easy task!

I wish more people would relaize that the BBB is a for profit company that is looking out for its own bottom line and not that of the consumer. Because of the huge marketing budget they have had for so man years, people seem to think the BBB is some arm of the government (not so). There are many companies out there that do a much better job a protecting the consumer.

The BBB is interested in selling memberships. For licensed contractors, MI has an on-line access to violations that can be checked.

The BBB is a “creditable” organization at least in the eyes of the consumer. A lot of consumers will check with the BBB prior to hiring a contractor. If the contractor is a scam or is less than honest chances are they will have multiple complaints filed and their rating will reflect that. If the company is reputable then their rating will reflect that as well. I for one am not an “accredited” business but I do have an A+ rating since I have never had a complaint filed and for length of time in business. Being “accredited” does have its benefits. Their are consumers who will use the BBB when looking for services . If you are an accredited business with an A+ rating in their area then they will give your name to that consumer. I do know of businesses that receive many leads per year from this alone. Now on the flip side with Companies with multiple complaints. Just because a company gets a complaint doesn’t mean it automatically drops your rating. As long as they resolve the complaint with in the standards set by the BBB then it isn’t supposed to hurt your rating, or so I am told? Bottom-line I think it is relative to your position and view on the BBB. Personally it doesn’t matter to me, then again I have an A+ rating.

NO. There is no proof being on the BBB site by paying them money get you more jobs or exposure or help on anything. BBB is actually probably outlived its time. It was great when the internet was not around. But now these days people have all sorts of ways of looking how your company is doing online simply by Googling it. I have had them call me so many times for me to join I had to block their number. If we are getting ranked on this site due to if we pay the BBB or not, then this site loses credibility right off the bat. My company is thriving without them and will continue to do so. I hope if we are ranked by this that it stops now.
